Siemens Healthcare Enables the Exchange of Health Data with ELGA
Denise Schäfer | 2016-04-25
The electronic health record (ELGA) was launched on December 9, 2015. Hospitals of the Styrian Hospital Corporation (KAGes) and of the Vienna Hospital Association (KAV) in Austria are the first to introduce the system. Together with affiliate ITH icoserve, Siemens Healthcare is providing both institutions with the necessary infrastructure. Communication between the networks via ELGA is based on federated XDS Affinity Domains. Both hospital associations will use the sense1 eHealth solution, and it will lay the foundation for the common, nation-wide electronic health record. The ELGA regions of Styria and Vienna are based on a technology directly from or distributed by Siemens Healthcare that enables the secure, standardized exchange of sensitive patient data. Top priority is given to data security, usability, and long-term reliability.
In Styria, ELGA has launched in the facilities of the Styrian Hospital Corporation (KAGes) and a number of other facilities, such as non-profit hospitals and therapy centers. In Vienna, ELGA was first being introduced at Hietzing Hospital and was gradually rolled out to other facilities. Other states will be linked to the system starting in 2016 and, in a final stage, pharmacies and doctors in private practices will be connected.
Siemens Healthcare will equip other healthcare facilities in other states with an Affinity Domain based on the sense eHealth solution; with its AURA® platform, Siemens Healthcare offers a separate ELGA link for private radiology practices, private hospitals, and other healthcare providers.
